Video IPODS: A BEGINNERS GUIDE TO iTunes and PDFs
iTunes is
still known as a music management program to most of us till
date, but recently Apple has added a few exciting features that
will allow iTunes to organize your movies and books too. These
features have been designed in order to allow music store to
sell not only music but also movies and other such stuff. Above
all, all these features can be used to enhance one’s own music
library too.
WHAT ARE PDF FILES?
PDF stands
for Portable Document Format and was developed by Adobe in the
late 90s.It was developed to compress otherwise bulky documents
and books, magazines etc into smaller and readable formats
compatible with most of the PCs.
After
announcing the iPod U2 Special Edition in collaboration with the
rock band U2, Apple released a “Digital Box Set” of U2’s back
catalog called The Complete U2 on October 26, 2004. This was the
first iTunes musical offering that included a “digital
booklet,” which Apple called it for the PDF version of a CD
insert, and the company enabled iTunes to download and store the
digital booklet alongside the rest of the U2 collection.
Since that
date, Apple has released several albums with this type of
addition, including Cold play’s recent X & Y, Bruce
Springsteen’s Devils & Dust, the Black Eyed Peas’ Monkey
Business, and Faith Hill’s Fireflies among others. Anyways Apple
is doing everything that it can to attract more customers to
buying music online rather than from the nearby music stores.
The digital booklet appears at the beginning of the list, and no
time/duration is shown. In addition, its bit rate is “Unknown.”
These PDF
files can be viewed very easily by double clicking at the file
containing the digital booklet. Then you can print these
booklets if you want to or simply view them on your PC’s screen.
While digital
booklets display together with their album, iTunes won’t copy
them automatically to your iPod, since the iPod cannot display
them. You can however, copy them to any location on your iPod or
to any folder on your computer. Well not only can iTunes but
also even you can add PDF files to your digital booklet. For
example, you can add the following information in PDF format:
* Album notes
that you have scanned
* CD inserts for music you have imported
* Lyrics for your favorite music
* Guitar tabs
* Band or orchestra information
* Photos
* and, of course, more…
You can do
this by simply creating a text file and then converting it to
PDF format or by scanning text or images and then converting it
to PDF format and then you can store it on you PC in the digital
booklet file.
To ensure
that PDFs are stored with the specific album to which they
belong, you must put them in their proper place as you do for
any music file. To do this, select the PDF file, then select
File > Get Info. Here you will see digital booklet is listed
with the appropriate artist, album, and genre tags.
Organizing PDF Files
While you can
organize your PDF files by setting their tags to match their
albums, you can also create play lists with them by dragging
them to a manual play list, or by making a smart play list that
looks for PDF files. To do this, create a smart play list with
one condition: Kind Contains PDF. With this kind of play list,
you can also store the lyrics and other information about the
band.
Therefore,
what’s waiting u, it’s just going to take a few minutes, and all
the information about your favorite bands will be there the way
you’ve always wanted to.
