How many amps is required of the AC power adapter of a Seagate external disk model st3300801cb ?
What are the consequences of
a) an adapter rated too high
b) an adaptor rated too low ?
Definitely no marking on the case showing the rating of the adapter.
I ask as the AC –> DC power adapter has been lost, and a suitable replacement is needed.
If you use a higher rated power adaptor – it will work fine provided the voltage is correct
If you use a lower rated adaptor it will get very hot and may not provide enough power to run your drive properly. Long term it’s likely to fail from constant overheating.
Use the wrong voltage and you will damage the drive.
